The Long Lunch: An Unhurried Afternoon in Porto

How to leave room for a neighborhood table, a riverside walk, and the pleasure of not watching the clock.

The best long lunch is less an address than a shape for the day. Reserve enough time that another course feels possible, then plan only a gentle walk afterward.

In Porto, choose a neighborhood that lets the route descend toward the Douro. Ask what is seasonal, order in stages, and remember that a small room with a short menu can be the beginning of an afternoon rather than its centerpiece.
