What a Harbor Teaches You About a Place

A harbor is both front door and workshop. Tourist promenades tell only part of the story; ferry boards, fish markets, repair sheds, and commuter routes show how the waterfront functions when nobody is posing for a photograph.

Walk it twice if you can—once early, when deliveries and departures set the pace, and once toward evening, when public space changes hands.
